Major AM frequency change in Ontario

Windsor, Ontario: 540 & 1550 KHz: CBEF requests frequency change from 540 to 1550 The French-language Premiere Chaine station proposes to take over the transmission facility abandoned by English-language station CBE-1550 earlier this year. Inspection of the CBEF 540 towers showed serious deterioration; apparently it would be less expensive to use the old AM transmitter and abandon the AM 540 site.

How often does this happen in the United States? Very few AM stations around New England that I've observed ever seem to make serious upgrades to their transmitting facilities. Of course, any degradation of the ground radials for example would not be observable, but most towers I've visited over the years were there even after WWII. WJDA-AM 1300's tower in Quincy, MA was blown down by a storm last year for example.

As far as AM antenna arrays being allowed to "rot"? - probably a significant majority of stations.........

At least they're not applying to move to FM. That's something positive.

Greg, I've got to assume they would move to FM if they could.....
