If you've been following this blog for awhile, you've followed the on again, off again saga of 690 & 940 in Montreal.
- First, these two major stations went silent;
- Then, they surrendered their licenses for cancellation;
- Then, it was announced applications were filed for new stations to take their place;
- and, just a few days ago, that the applications had been removed from the agenda for the next CRTC hearing.
Well, now we know why... and it does not mean the new applications are dead. Rather, after reading interventions filed by third parties, the Commission felt they needed to solicit competing applications for new AM service in Montreal. Only the 690 and 940KHz frequencies are involved.
A site for unusual long-distance reception of regular domestic AM & FM radio and television stations.

Return of Montreal 690/940 delayed
The applications to reactivate the 690 and 940 frequencies in Montreal have been withdrawn from the agenda for the CRTC hearing on July 18th. At this time they have not been completely withdrawn -- they will be heard later -- so the return of these frequencies is still possible.
