AM format change denied

Montreal, Quebec: 690KHz:
CKGM denied language flip

CKGM is an English-language all-sports station which recently moved from 990 to 690. The station sought permission to flip from English to French, while remaining an all-sports outlet.

Simultaneously, the station's owners sought to merge with another large Canadian broadcast group. The latter application was denied. (for reasons that have nothing to do with the Montreal language flip) The CKGM language flip request was contingent on approval of the ownership transfer; with the transfer dead, so is the move to French.

Do not assume this won't come up again -- and it is very possible it will be approved.

AM station granted frequency change

Windsor, Ontario: 1550KHz:
CBEF granted move from 540.

This station on Radio-Canada's French-language Premiere Chaine network requires expensive repairs to the towers for its 540KHz transmission facility.

They've decided to instead use the silent facility on 1550KHz previously used by English-language station CBE. (CBE moved to 97.5 FM last year) The 1550 site is in better condition.

The 1550 facility is 10,000 watts directional, same pattern day & night, at 42-12-56N/82-55-15W. It will not adequately cover the city of Sarnia (which 540KHz does) so an FM transmitter on 98.3 with about 2,300 watts power will be installed there.

AM station requests frequency change

Asheboro, North Carolina: 700KHz:
WZOO requests move from 710.

The station would dismantle its 3-tower directional antenna and use a single tower for non-directional operation. Power would remain at 1kw, and the tower location would not change.
